An Empty Gesture

Herein lies the comedy. A rather pathetic and empty gesture will do nothing to stop Mugabe, who ironically enough fought the British Empire as a guerrilla leader for 13 years previous to independence. Why the fuck was he knighted anyway? He sits on his throne, bragging about driving out the British from the country, yet earns a knighthood. And in 1994! And today they relieve him of his title and “honour” in spite of the years before. MANY years. In 1995, Mugabe launched a vicious campaign against gays and lesbians in his country, passing anti-gay laws the same year, and charged the former president of “11 counts of sodomy and indecent assault.” When is an assault decent, anyway? He spun this rediculous myth that the Colonialists were to blame for homosexuality in his country, and that Zimbabweans didn’t practice it… and this was one year AFTER he gets knighted by the same head of state of that colonial regime he fought against! And for years after he’s been railing against Europeans for their crimes while still knighted!

Do as she wishes. It will do nothing. No foreign regime can change the tragedy of Zimbabwe. Now it is time for the people themselves to rise up and dismember his regime from the top down.
